Helping You Avoid Eye Emergencies

It’s essential to know when you will need eye protection. Proper safety glasses can help reduce the risk of 90% of all eye-related injuries and emergencies.

Specific safety glasses are better for different types of activities, like playing sports or working in construction. We can recommend a pair of safety glasses that are right for your needs.

Common Eye Emergencies

No two eye emergencies are exactly the same. For the most comprehensive care possible, be sure to speak to us or your emergency team as soon as possible. Acting quickly could help manage a range of injuries before they cause permanent problems.

Several types of eye emergencies can occur. If any of the following happen to you or a loved one, seek help immediately.

Physical impact is any trauma sustained to the eye or surrounding area.

One of the most common injuries is a black eye, but trauma can cause serious eye pain and possibly lead to blindness.

Chemical eye injuries can occur around the house while cleaning up or even at work. Chemicals from cleaning or gardening products, and industrial chemicals can accidentally get in your eyes from spills or sprays.

If you get chemicals in your eyes, the following steps can help:

  • Wash your hands with soap and cool water thoroughly.
  • Turn your head so the affected eye is down and to the side.
  • Hold the affected eyelid open and flush it out with clean tap water for 15 minutes.

A chemical spill or spray in your eyes can cause severe damage, and you should seek emergency care as soon as possible.

Foreign objects like dust or dirt can cause irritation and discomfort, but they can also damage the surface of your eye if they aren’t removed.

If you feel like there’s something in your eye that won’t flush out naturally, please call our team immediately.

Eye diseases can also cause emergency symptoms that may need immediate care. Some of the most common eye disease emergencies are wet macular degeneration or closed-angle glaucoma.

Call our team immediately if you start noticing sudden symptoms like vision loss, eye pain, or nausea.

Severe eye emergencies, like punctures, scrapes, and cuts, should be treated by an emergency response team.
